I see a lot of people these days drinking diet soda and often wonder if they know the truth about what they are consuming. I learned in chiropractic school it is physiologically impossible to lose weight drinking diet soda... why you ask... Let me try and explain then you can check out the link and find out a little more from the article.
When diet soda is ingested, especially on an empty stomach it causes digestive enzymes to be released into the stomach which then triggers chemicals in your brain. These chemicals are telling your brain there is something in your stomach that needs to be digested (the diet soda). However, there is nothing of any substance to be digested, so you brain is then triggered to make you want to eat so the enzymes have something to actually digest in your stomach. Long story short, drinking diet soda actually tricks your body into thinking it is hungry so the next thing you know your reaching for something to eat.
